Physician Assistant - Cardiovascular & Cardiothoracic Surgery
Join our dynamic team at VHS as a Physician Assistant specializing in cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical procedures. In this pivotal role, you will support complex surgeries such as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repairs and replacements, and other critical cardiovascular interventions. You will work alongside experienced surgeons to deliver exceptional patient care, including pre- and post-operative management within the CV ICU, critical care settings, and perform essential procedures like sternotomy closure, chest tube placement, and arterial/venous sheath insertions. Required Skills
- Proven ability to assist independently in open heart surgeries, including CABG and valve procedures
- Experience in EVH/vein harvesting, especially endoscopic radial artery harvesting and EVH/venous harvesting techniques
- Familiarity with sternotomy closure, chest tube placement, arterial/venous sheath insertion, and central line placement
- Ability to manage critical care in the CV ICU, including pre- and post-operative patient care
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular surgical and perioperative protocols
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have Skills - Experience with Impella device management
- Exposure to SFA procedures and endoscopic radial artery harvesting techniques
- Prior work in high-volume cardiac or thoracic surgery centers
- Additional certifications in advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) or advanced practice skills
Preferred Education and Experience - Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program; valid certification and licensure in your state
- At least 2 years of experience in cardiovascular or thoracic surgery settings, with demonstrated independence in advanced procedures
- Prior experience working in ICU or perioperative environments related to cardiac surgery
Other Requirements - Willingness to travel or work across different hospital locations when needed
- Current licensure, certification, and compliance with all state and federal regulations
