NEW POSITION: Surgical Educator at OSU!
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Department of Urology seeks to fill an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position with a professional educator specializing in surgical education. The successful applicant will also have an appointment in the inaugural Department of Biomedical Education & Anatomy.
This position will provide dynamic scholarship opportunities in an institution with a national reputation in research and education. The candidate will assist the Department of Urology in developing an Office of Urologic Education and will be a key participant in a state of the art multidisciplinary Clinical Skills Center. Opportunities to interface and collaborate with education units within the College of Medicine are greatly encouraged.
This is a full time position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level. Responsibilities will include curriculum design, planning and implementation of educational programs for urologic trainees and faculty. This will include assessment and evaluation development as well as program oversight. Importantly, a majority of effort will be directed towards educational research, dissemination of findings, and grant writing. The successful candidate will manage, analyze, and interpret data; investigate and identify possible grant funding resources; conceptualize, plan and write educational grant proposals to obtain funding in support of programs; write and prepare manuscripts, articles and reports for publication; attend and present at regional, national and international conferences, seminars and workshops; and provide consultation to faculty and trainees on study design and research methodology.
The goals for this position are to increase the quantity and quality of educational research originating from the Department, with a major focus on the development of innovative methods to assess the learning environment and its relationship to competency development and assessment. The further development of surgical simulation, as well as OSATS (objective structured assessment of technical skills), and their incorporation into the curricula of students, residents, and fellows is sought.
Requirements: Candidates should have an EdD or a PhD in education, psychology or a field relevant to medical education. MD candidates should demonstrate additional training in the assessment field. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as is a record of peer-reviewed publications in scholarly journals. Excellent collaborative abilities and a proven ability to work well with students, faculty and administrative teams are required. Experience within a department of urology is not required and individuals from a variety of backgrounds will be considered. Experience in constructing valid and reliable evaluation systems for health professions education and in faculty development is desired. Faculty appointment will be made at a rank commensurate with the applicants experience and accomplishments.
