Job Summary

Receive hands-on training as you gain exposure to some of our most seriously ill patients.Geisingers Advanced Practitioner Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine is a 12-month program designed to provide physician assistants and nurse practitioners with immersive, hands-on experience at a dynamic, innovative healthcare system. Fellows train alongside experienced critical care advanced practitioners and attending physicians from diverse backgrounds to gain exposure to a wide range of clinical perspectives. Rotations across multiple intensive care units offer robust learning opportunities in high-acuity environments. Fellows work as part of a multidisciplinary team developing the skills needed to provide collaborative, evidence-based care. Our program emphasizes personalized mentorship so each fellow receives the attention, guidance and support necessary to meet their clinical and professional goals.

Program Overview:

Geisingers Advanced Practitioner Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine offers a comprehensive curriculum to develop clinical excellence across a range of critical care environments. Fellows rotate through Geisingers 5 intensive care units, gaining hands-on experience with diverse patient populations and pathologies. Fellows also have the opportunity to work with the anesthesia team to develop advanced airway management skills. Dedicated elective time allows fellows to tailor their training to their interests and career goals.

Core Rotations:

Required Orientation Activities: 1 week

Trauma ICU: days/nights, 4-6 weeks

Medical ICU: days/nights, 8-10 weeks

Surgical ICU: days/nights, 8-10 weeks

Neuroscience ICU: days/nights, 8-10 weeks

Cardiac ICU: days/nights, 8-10 weeks

Anesthesia/Airway: days, 2 weeks

Triage: nights, 2 weeks

Elective: 2-4 weeks

The didactic component of the fellowship complements clinical training with structured education. Fellows participate in monthly simulation labs to practice patient management in emergencies and procedural skills in a controlled environment. They also engage in monthly critical care morbidity and mortality (M&M) conferences to promote reflective learning and continuous improvement. Weekly critical care and resident lecture series provide exposure to core topics, evidence-based practices and emerging developments in critical care medicine.

Critical Care Lecture series: Every Tuesday, 1230-1430

Resident Lecture series: Every Wednesday, 1200-1300

Pulmonary Image Conference: Every Thursday, 1530-1630

Critical Care Department Meeting: 3rdThursday, 1730-1900

Critical Care M&M: 4thThursday, 1230-1400

Department of Medicine Grand Rounds: Friday, 1200-1300

Department of Critical Care Medicine Grand Rounds: Quarterly

Position Details

GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER (GMC), located in Danville, PA, the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children's Hospital. GMC, a Magnet Hospital, maintains the region's only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics. GMC offers an array of highly specialized medical and surgical services, including neurosciences, cardiovascular services, transplantation, women's health (in the Women's Pavilion), oncology and orthopaedics. The Hospital for Advanced Medicine serves as an integrated center for the most critical patients. Outpatient services are available on and off campus.
