The ideal candidate would be an early career or a mid-career interventional cardiologist with experience and training in percutaneous coronary interventions. The current scope of interventional cardiology in Scranton, PA includes STEMI care, percutaneous coronary interventions, atherectomy, shockwave therapy etc. In addition, Geisinger Community Medical Center has a robust structural heart disease program including TAVR. The facility also prides itself with ability to insert mechanical circulatory support devices including ECMO percutaneously in the cath lab.
Geisinger Community Medical Center has received The Joint Commission/American Heart Association (AHA) Comprehensive Heart Attack Center Certification and has been recognized as a Mission Lifeline Heart Attack Receiving Center. This recognition has helped GCMC set the national standard for care coordination among hospital leadership, interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, heart failure, advanced practice, nursing, life support, emergency medicine, emergency medical services (EMS), care management, pharmacy, and cardiac rehab teams.
System-wide, Geisingers Heart and Vascular Institute has 69 Cardiologists, 12 Cardiothoracic Surgeons, 12 Vascular Surgeons as well as 82 Advanced Practitioners.Services are provided at GMC in Danville, PA; The Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital at Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV) in Wilkes-Barre, PA; Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) in Scranton, PA; Geisinger - Grays Woods in State College, PA; as well as select community locations encompassing an additional Cardiologists.
Geisingers Heart and Vascular Institute also offers comprehensive care for our pediatric heart patients.The pediatric and congenital heart team consists of eight Cardiologists and one Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Geisingers Janet Weis Childrens Hospital (JWCH) at GMC.
The multidisciplinary team members of the Geisinger Heart and Vascular Institute participate in outcomes and population-based research through the Geisinger Center for Health Research; molecular, cellular and genomics research at the Siegfried and Janet Weis Center for Health Research; and trials of new drugs, devices and techniques through the Geisinger Center for Clinical Studies. The Institute serves as an educational venue for cardiology fellows and advanced fourth-year cardiology fellows, an annual Cardiology Symposium and frequent CME lectures.
