Job Profile Summary:
The staff psychiatrist provides psychiatric services for the diagnosis and/or treatment of psychiatric disorders on inpatients and outpatients who present themselves or are referred to Horizons Mental Health Center for care. Professional services are provided in accordance with policies approved by Horizons Board of Directors and/or the medical staff of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System. Outpatient services are provided within one or more offices of Horizons Mental Health Center serving Reno, Pratt, Kingman, Barber and Harper Counties. Inpatient psychiatric services are provided at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Travel to branch offices outside of Hutchinson may be required. This position requires full-time employment. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Job Description:

Position Relationships:

  • Responsible to: The staff psychiatrist is accountable to the Medical Director of Horizons Mental Health Center for administrative matters and professional services.
  • Employees supervised: Administratively none.  Clinically, the staff psychiatrist may be required   to supervise members of the professional staff of Horizons Mental Health Center in their outpatient and inpatient duties.
  • The staff psychiatrist must work effectively with all members of the professional and clerical staff within Horizons Mental Health Center to provide efficient quality psychiatric care. The staff psychiatrist serves as the head of the treatment team for inpatients on the psychiatric unit of Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and for patients elsewhere in the hospital on whom psychiatric consultation is requested. The staff psychiatrist works to maintain effective liaison with physicians and other referral sources in the community. He/She also has occasion to work with others in administration, nursing, in-services education, medical records, and the business office.

Essential Fuctions:

  • Meets productivity standard established by the Horizons Board of Directors or as modified by the Medical Director.
  • Undertakes special projects at the direction of the Horizons Board of Directors or the Medical Director.
  • Serves as consultant to the professional nursing staff and the Mental Health Center staff.
  • Participates in educational programs with professional and paraprofessional personnel.
  • When tasked to do so, participates with personnel from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center or other subsidiaries in planning joint administrative or technical programs.
  • Reviews and is responsible for methods of treatment for patients who are referred to Horizons and who are not presently under the care of a psychiatrist.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • Physician licensed by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts to practice medicine and Psychiatry in the State of Kansas
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry
  • Member in good standing of the organized medical staff of Hutchinson Regional Medical Center
  • Fully capable and qualified in accordance with the good medical practice to provide services s to patients of Horizons
  • Have never been and not currently excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal, state or local governmental program for the reimbursement of health care services
  • Comply with Horizons bylaws, rules regulations and policies and any amendments thereto
