Physician - Hospitalist

West Columbia, SC 29169

Specialty Hospitalist
Profession Physician

Lexington Health is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible OB/GYN physician to join our expanding OB/GYN Hospitalist team. This hybrid role focuses on providing in-house, after-hours obstetric and gynecologic inpatient care, supporting both assigned and unassigned patients, and responding to emergencies. The hospitalist collaborates closely with our employed and community-based OB/GYNs to ensure consistent, high-quality care across the service line.

Our network of care consists of 36 OB/GYNs, 9 GYN-only physicians, 2 Family Medicine OB physicians, and 16 Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants. We deliver approximately 4,000 babies per year, with continued growth expected as South Carolina remains one of the fastest-growing states in the country.

The Hospitalist will strengthen overnight safety, supports resident education, and ensures a skilled OB/GYN physician is present on-site during critical hours.

Subspecialty services are available to us within our hospital system in MFM, gynecologic oncology, and urogynecology. As part of our health care system, consultations are also readily available from other specialties such as general surgery, urology, interventional radiology, etc.

A full-time OB/GYN Hospitalist will work a set number of annual shifts, determined by organizational need, scheduling requirements, and provider availability. Shifts are primarily overnight during the week, with full weekend coverage. Daytime call coverage is provided by our community-based OB/GYN physicians, allowing the hospitalist to focus exclusively on inpatient care. This role does not include office responsibilities or scheduled daytime GYN surgeries.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-house coverage Monday-Friday (7 PM - 7 AM) and 48-hour weekend shifts on a rotating basis

  • Collaborate with nursing staff, anesthesia, and on-call physicians to ensure coordinated and safe patient care
