Major Duties of the Position:
- Provide high-quality general surgical services in our progressive, innovative health care system for the veteran outpatient and inpatient population.
- Deliver patient-centered diagnostic and therapeutic care for patients with various surgical conditions, addressing both acute and chronic medical issues.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans to address the specific needs of general surgery patients.
- Perform and interpret various general surgical procedures, including laparoscopic and open surgeries, hernia repairs, appendectomies, and other related surgeries.
- Collaborate with other specialists to provide comprehensive care, including cases that may require multidisciplinary management.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic techniques and treatments tailored to the general surgery population.
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows, contributing to educational development programs affiliated with the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to patient care, teaching, and research, and be eligible for a faculty appointment in the relevant department at the University of New Mexico.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care for general surgery patients.
- Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives related to general surgery.
