The University of Oklahoma (OU) and OU Health are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Medical Director of the Liver Transplant Program. This leadership role is pivotal in advancing our mission to provide exceptional patient care, innovative research, and comprehensive education in the field of liver transplantation.

OU Health is home to Oklahomas only comprehensive academic medical center with an established liver transplant team, offering comprehensive services to both adult and pediatric patients. Our program is distinguished by its multidisciplinary approach, integrating cutting-edge research and advanced surgical techniques to deliver superior patient outcomes. Notably, OU Health recently completed the states first evidence-based liver transplant for a particularly challenging form of bile duct cancer, placing us among a select group of programs nationwide offering this advanced treatment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care 

*?Oversee the evaluation, selection, and management of liver transplant patients, ensuring adherence to evidence-based protocols and best practices. 

*?Lead a multidisciplinary team comprising hepatologists, transplant surgeons, anesthesiologists, and advanced practice providers to deliver comprehensive patient care. 

*Monitor patient outcomes and spearhead quality improvement initiatives to enhance transplant success rates. 

 

Program Development & Administration 

*Develop and implement policies and protocols for the liver transplant program, ensuring compliance with UNOS, OPTN, CMS, and other regulatory bodies. 

*Collaborate with hospital administration to establish program goals, budgets, and strategic initiatives aimed at program growth and innovation. 

*?Engage in outreach efforts to referring physicians and community health programs to expand the transplant patient base. 

 

Research & Education 

*Foster clinical research initiatives to advance the field of liver transplantation, including participation in groundbreaking procedures such as transplants for aggressive bile duct cancers. 

*Mentor and educate medical staff, fellows, residents, and students, promoting a culture of continuous learning and academic excellence. 

*Stay abreast of emerging trends and innovations in transplant medicine to ensure the program remains at the forefront of the field. 

Qualifications: 

 

Education & Training 

*MD or DO degree with board certification in Transplant?  Hepatology and Gastroenterology 

*Fellowship training in Transplant Hepatology or a related field is strongly preferred. 

 

Experience 

*A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in liver transplantation, with a proven track record of clinical excellence. 

*Demonstrated leadership or administrative experience in a transplant program, with a history of successful program development and growth. 

 

Skills & Competencies 

*Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. 

*?In-depth knowledge of liver transplant protocols, regulations, and best practices, with an emphasis on patient-centered care. 

*Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with patients, interdisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders. 

*?Strategic thinking with a focus on program growth, innovation, and quality improvement. 

Work Environment & Schedule: 

* Position is based at OU Health in Oklahoma City, within a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to transplant services. 

*On-call responsibilities shared with other hepatology providers.

  • Salary: Competitive starting salary based on experience, plus production and quality incentives; sign-on bonuses available
