ThedaCare is seeking a Physician to join as our Associate Chief Medical Officer of ThedaCare Regional Medical Center - Appleton. This position will be 0.6 FTE administrative duties with these key accountabilities:
- Collaborates with SVP of TCA, CMO Acute Care and the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) in all aspects of medical affairs with particular emphasis on clinical care, quality and efficiency throughout the continuum. Serves as an Ex Officio MEC member or full voting member as appropriate. This includes connecting care models between ambulatory and traditional impatient hospital-based services.
- Maintain active clinical practice. The Acute Care CMO and President of North Region Physician Group will provide direction and support for the work of the ACMO to assure the work of the ACMO is aligned with key strategic initiatives and sets the ACMO up for success in achieving key accountabilities while maintaining balance with clinical practice and time outside of work.
- Partner closely with the ACMO of TCN to assure alignment, equitable sharing of duties, and coverage for time when each may be unavailable. For example, create a schedule to assure attendance at all Medical Staff Department meetings.
- Plays a key role in modeling and promoting positive physician relationships.
- Acts as medical advisor to administration where necessary in the management of ancillary, nursing, and contracted physician and APC services.
- Serve as a trusted liaison between the medical staff, hospital administration, nursing/nursing leadership and ThedaCare as a System.
- Ensure optimal coverage and access at all hospitals. Accountable to maximize appropriate in person and virtual (tele-health) patient access at all hospitals.
- Regularly connect with the VP, CMO for Ambulatory Care to enhance clinical leadership and oversight of all employed APCs and physicians in the hospital.
- Serve as a resource to the Credentialing Committee at the direction of the Credentialing Chair.
- Assist Department Chairs and the quality team to choose pertinent, well thought out, and strategic OPPE measures for all Departments (as appropriate).
- Develop physician and APC leaders within the hospital and connect them with ongoing professional development, mentoring, and potential opportunities for system level engagement.
- Serves as a key executive in physician recruitment, retention and growth strategies. Participates in interviews, assessments and recruitment of physician candidates for employment. Maintains a working, supportive relationship with the Director of Physician Recruiting.
- Participates in strategy development and implementation concerning physician affiliations.
- Promotes ongoing medical education opportunities for medical staff physicians and allied providers.
- Strictly follow ThedaCare’s related policies, partner with the medical staff leadership for physician and APC Professional Behavior concerns and/or Code of Conduct violations including but not limited to investigation, interview, support and coaching of medical staff leadership and helping to form corrective action when indicated.
- Develops, reviews, revises, and enforces hospital policies and hospital care policies to support best practices across the system. If a policy is in need of updating, takes the initiative to assure update is taken through the process of review and finalization with the medical staff as appropriate.
- Partner closely with the Quality team, Medical Staff Services and operational/hospital leaders to create a safe environment founded on High Reliability principles.
- Network across all acute care sites in the North Region (as well as the South as appropriate) to align the best practices and optimal performance.
- Represent hospital as requested on any of the THN committees, performance improvement projects and/or work group.
- Provide oversight for Hospital Peer Review, Operational Best Practices, Practitioner Health Committee and hospital outcomes assuring the MEC/medical staff and support teams follow ThedaCare policies, System Bylaws and Rules and Regulations.
- Accountable for the success of system quality and safety improvement initiatives. Collaborates with the hospitals to ensure provider and nursing skills, operation, and hospitals synergy are appropriate for licensure and operationally optimized.
- Partner with the local/site nursing leadership/DON as well as the Chief Nursing Officer as appropriate to assure an aligned and complementary nursing, physician, and APC clinical team.
- Investing in and maintaining collaborative relationships with all groups practicing within the hospital – ThedaCare employed, ACO partners, and independent groups.
- Oversight of Verge Safety Events including participation in RCAs, countermeasure development, and implementation of countermeasures aligned with hospital policies, Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations.
- Be familiar and serve as the “go-to hospital resource” on hospital policies, Code of Conduct, Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and develop a strong partnership with quality, regulatory, compliance, and legal partners.
- Assist with maintaining network integrity by building collaborative relations between all hospital providers including but not limited to employed, affiliate, and independent providers/groups.
- The Associate CMO will Assist the CMO in developing, reviewing and deploying best practices and protocols. Ensuring accountability and continued effectiveness of these policies and ensure regulatory compliance.
- In partnership with the CMIO, provide input for Epic optimization and assist as needed with routine Epic upgrades as it relates to delivery of hospital services. To also include the regular updating of system order sets and templates. Actively promotes system concept of care delivery to reduce unnecessary care variation and to improve the cost of care. Assists with the design and implementation of Electronic Health Record upgrades, clinical logistic systems and other IS platforms within ThedaCare, acting as a physician champion and liaison.
- Oversees medical quality initiatives and programs for TCA including services as a member of local and system quality committees. Participates in preparation for all audits or accreditation visits by any state, federal, or accrediting bodies.
- Support the training and onboarding of new MEC officers and members as they are elected/appointed to their two-year terms.
- Proactively assist the MEC in offering robust content for Medical Staff meetings. This could include incorporation of CME related actives and other educational and supportive content at the discretion of the Chief of Staff/MEC.
- Provides input to hospital Medical Directors’ performance appraisals, especially clinical performance and clinical quality outcomes.
- Support Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) and overall documentation excellence.
- Support Care Management and assist in assuring appropriate patient status determination and Code-44 completing as applicable.
- Support the MEC, and in particular the Treasurer, in the management of medical staff account(s) to help assure compliant and meaningful impact with the use of these funds. Facilitate a connection with financial, legal, or compliance leaders as needed and at the request of medical staff leadership/MEC for guidance and further support.
- Collaborate with regional, hospital, ACO, and medical staff leadership to implement and oversee standards for physician and APC performance in the hospital. Participates in utilization review/management efforts, including prospective, concurrent, and retrospective assessment of patient care in support of provider professional development or promotion of system or local quality work.
