ECU Health Physicians, ECU Health Medical Center, and East Carolina Universitys Brody School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, located in Greenville, North Carolina are seeking a board-certified transplant surgeon to provide locums coverage. Candidates should have fellowship training in transplant surgery, be board certified in general surgery, and have at least 5 years of experience.

Call Coverage Is Needed: 5/21/2026 - ongoing during recruitment

Weekend coverage 7am Friday -7am Monday

Approximately 1 weekend per month

New providers will need to come in for orientation the day before their first shift begins

 Opportunity Highlights:

  • Hospital privileges at ECU Health Medical Center, a 974-bed level 1 trauma center and academic medical center
  • Inpatient only clinical responsibilities
  • Call Schedule: one weekend month          
  • Locums provider will not be required to remain on-site while on call
  • Avg total inpatient census: 8-12
  • Avg # of patients/day/provider 8-12 with resident coverage
  • Avg # of admissions/day 0-3
  • Avg# of admissions/night 0-1
  • # of Surgical cases per month: 10-12 transplants
  • ICU/Critical Care duties: no
  • Will the LT respond to codes: no
  • Will the LT be expected to serve as back up in the ER? no
  • BLS, ACLS required from AHA

Deceased donor renal transplant

Deceased donor simultaneous kidney/pancreas

Review and accept organ offers

The ECU Health Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program performs 125-150 transplant per year.

ECU Health Medical Center has a 29-county catchment area.
