Key Responsibilities:
- Provide locum coverage for adult outpatient and hospital-based Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine services.
- Perform a variety of endoscopic procedures, including Esophageal Dilatation, Manometry, Small Bowel Biopsy, Colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, Liver Biopsy, and more.
- Assist in advanced procedures such as Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Upper GI Endoscopy with various therapeutic interventions, ERCP, and insertion/management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tubes.
- Conduct weekend hospital call coverage on Saturdays and Sundays, averaging approximately eight procedures per weekend.
- Utilize the Epic EMR system to document patient encounters efficiently.
Required Skills:
- Board Certification or Eligibility in Gastroenterology.
- Proven experience with adult outpatient and inpatient gastroenterological procedures.
- Proficiency in performing and interpreting esophageal manometry, endoscopic interventions, and biopsies.
- Ability to work independently in a hospital and clinic setting with a focus on patient safety and quality care.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with ERCP, EUS, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy procedures.
- Familiarity with hospital-based workflows and Epic EMR.
- Prior locum or hospital-based practice experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in Virginia.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-training experience in Gastroenterology.
- Successful completion of credentialing within approximately 90 days.
Other Requirements:
- Availability for weekend call duties.
- Certifications in ACLS/BLS as required.
- Travel and licensure-related reimbursements, including ~$150/night lodging cap and travel expenses when applicable.
