About the Salisbury VA Health Care System

We are part of the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 6, which includes facilities across North Carolina and Virginia. Our healthcare system is anchored by the Salisbury VA Healthcare System, a comprehensive medical facility dedicated to serving Veterans in the region.

Our main facility in Salisbury is a full-service medical center providing a wide range of care, including primary care, specialty services, mental health, and extended care. We offer complex and coordinated care across the continuum, from inpatient and outpatient services to residential rehabilitation programs, all designed to meet the needs of our diverse Veteran population.

The Salisbury VAHCS features specialized units such as mental health inpatient and outpatient programs, a community living center, and residential rehabilitation for Veterans with complex health needs. Additionally, we operate several Healthcare Centers, and a Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) located in Charlotte and Kernersville, North Carolina.

About the Primary Care Position

Join us in serving those who have served! The Kernersville Health Care Center’s Primary Care Department is seeking dedicated Primary Care Providers to make a difference in the lives of our nation’s heroes.

Duties

Clinical - Direct Patient Care:

  • Upholds high ethical, clinical, and administrative standards.
  • Provides age-appropriate care for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Acts as a Primary Care provider within PACT at Kernersville HCC.
  • Performs evaluations, follow-ups, and procedures.
  • Prescribes and manages medications for chronic conditions and pain.

 

Clinical-Indirect Patient Care:

  • Reviews and recommends adjustments to medication regimens.
  • Contributes to pain management planning.
  • Documents patient interactions in electronic health records.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and initiatives.
  • Participates in team meetings and care coordination.
  • Offers expert consultation on complex cases.
  • Leads quality improvement and process initiatives.

Research & Quality Improvement (When applicable):

  • Participates in research and quality projects related to drug therapy and patient care.
  • Assists in preparing publication articles.

 

Program Management & Administration

  • Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Supports performance metrics improvement, especially in pain management.
  • Maintains interdepartmental relationships and collaborates on best practices.
  • Participate in hospital committees and in-service programs.
  • Completes required continuing education (CMEs).

 

Requirements

  • Board Certified or Eligible in Internal or Family Medicine
  • Hold a full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. State
  • Completion of an accredited residency in a core specialty. 
  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be considered when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy.

 

About our Benefits

  • Salary: $200,000-$270,000
  • Salary: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases.
  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME).
  • Retirement: Federal pension (5 years vesting) and a 401(k) plan with up to 5% VA contributions.
  • Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care (many can be carried into retirement).
  • Licensure: One full, unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory.
  • CME: Up to $1,000 annually for full-time physicians with board certification.
  • Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage.
  • Contract: No physician employment contract or significant restrictions on moonlighting.
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • EDRP Authorized: a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
