The Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System (OCVAHCS) is actively recruiting a board-certified full-time permanent hospital employed Anesthesiologist to join our Anesthesia service.  Anesthesiologists are fully licensed practitioners who provide perioperative medical care, anesthesia, pain management, and critical care services. They practice within the scope of their privileges as approved by the Medical Staff and Executive Committee of the Medical Staff (ECMS).  The ideal candidate will serve as a staff anesthesiologist within the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center performing direct medical care in their specialty. The incumbent must be Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesia and have authoritative intensive knowledge in Anesthesia. The attending anesthesiologist is charged with delivering the best possible anesthesia care to our Veteran inpatients and outpatients. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy and must meet community standards. The attending anesthesiologist performs pre-operative and pre-procedural anesthetic risk assessment. Evaluation includes obtaining relevant history, performing physical exam, reviewing vital signs, lab values and all other relevant diagnostic studies prior to surgery. Appropriate notes are written in the patient's medical record. The attending anesthesiologist provides direct anesthesia services including the administration of anesthetic agents, performance of procedures including but not limited to:

 

  1. Peripheral IV placement, arterial catheter placement, central venous catheter placement, and placement of related invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices.
  2. Participates in the Anesthesia pre-operative assessment clinic.
  3. Supervises CRNAs in provision of anesthesia team care.
  4. Sites of responsibility include providing patient care in the Operating Room, PACU, Intensive Care Unit, Pain Clinic, IR suite, GI suite, and other locations as required.
  5. Participates in the Weekend/Holiday/Evening/Night on-call schedule in a proportion equivalent to other members of that section.
  6. Maintains ACLS and BLS certification.
  7. Responsible for providing objective information regarding risks and benefits of relevant anesthetic treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient, legal guardian or next of kin prior to administering said treatments.
  8. Performs inpatient and outpatient face-to-face consultations and e-consultations as requested.
  9. Works effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with respect and dignity.
  10. Comply with information security policy and procedures.
  11. Provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the patient. He/she must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served within the Surgical and Anesthesia Service.
  12. Must demonstrate the knowledge of the changes associated with aging and diseases process and the ability to provide care based upon age and disease related factors as specified on the competence assessment checklist.
  13. Use the best available procedures and to perform them at or above national statistical levels.
  14. Participates in the education and training of nurses, technicians, medical students, residents, fellows, and medical staff as appropriate.
  15. Maintains skill in use of the VA electronic medical record

 

The OCVAMC is located in Oklahoma City, OK and is the Flagship for the Oklahoma VA Health Care System (OCVAHCS) - a Joint Commission accredited, referral level 1b (medium complexity) facility. The Cardiology department serves patients across the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient care for more than 70,000 veterans in an area that includes 48 counties in Oklahoma and 2 counties in North Central Texas. Work Schedule

Full-time, Monday-Friday 08:00-4:30

U.S. Citizens receive preference non-U.S. Citizens may be considered.

Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or Anesthesiology in the U.S.

Board Certified in Anesthesiology.

The starting pay is $320,000 - $400,000 per year.
