The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neuro ICU team in downtown Baltimore.

Position Overview

The NP/PA in the Neuro ICU is responsible for comprehensive inpatient management of critically ill neurological patients in collaboration with physician intensivists and the multidisciplinary care team.

This role emphasizes clinical excellence, care coordination, and evidence-based practice in a fast-paced critical care environment.


Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manage and treat patients in the Neuro ICU in collaboration with attending physicians
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing clinical evaluations
  • Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing and laboratory studies
  • Coordinate care across physicians, nurses, therapists, and ancillary staff
  • Facilitate communication between the care team, patients, and families
  • Ensure continuity of care through detailed handoffs and documentation
  • Integrate current research and best practices into patient management

Practice Environment

  • High-acuity Neuro Intensive Care Unit in a major academic medical center
  • Collaborative multidisciplinary team including neurocritical care physicians, nurses, and support staff
  • Exposure to complex neurological and neurosurgical critical care cases
  • Strong emphasis on team-based, evidence-driven care delivery

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Rotating shifts (Neuro ICU coverage model)

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with completion of NP program
  • Active Maryland NP license (or eligibility)
  • National certification in specialty area
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required

Physician Assistant

  • Completion of an accredited PA program
  • Eligible for or active Maryland PA license

Preferred

  • Critical care, ICU, or neurology experience
  • Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
