About the Opportunity
The University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC), part of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), is seeking a Neurohospitalist to join a growing inpatient neurology program within a well-established community hospital.
This role offers the opportunity to practice high-acuity inpatient neurology in a collaborative, physician-led environment with strong subspecialty and academic system support.
Position Overview
The Neurohospitalist will be responsible for the acute inpatient management of patients with neurologic conditions, providing consultative and direct care across multiple hospital settings, including the ICU, medical floors, and Emergency Department.
This is a block schedule position (7 on / 7 off) designed to support strong work-life balance while maintaining high clinical engagement.
Facility Highlights
- 7 on / 7 off schedule with 12-hour shifts (168 shifts annually)
- Inpatient neurology coverage across:
- 46-bed closed ICU
- Medical-surgical floors
- Emergency Department
- Active inpatient consult service with high-volume case mix
- Onsite vascular neurology support
- Established comprehensive stroke program
- Opportunities for EEG and EMG interpretation and participation
- Strong multidisciplinary collaboration with ICU, ED, and hospitalist teams
Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation starting at $375,000+ (based on 168 shifts/year)
- $20,000 sign-on bonus

Qualifications
Required
- MD or DO with completion of an accredited Neurology residency
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology
- Eligible for or active Maryland medical license
- DEA (Controlled Substances) certification
- Ability to obtain hospital privileges within UMMS
Preferred
- Experience or strong interest in inpatient neurology / neurohospitalist practice
- Strong communication, collaboration, and clinical decision-making skills
