Position Overview

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Full-Time OB Hospitalist to join its women’s health team serving the Central Maine region. The OB Hospitalist will provide comprehensive inpatient obstetric care and labor & delivery coverage in Lewiston, ME. 

This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with OB/GYN physicians, certified nurse midwives, nursing staff, anesthesiology, neonatology, and emergency department teams to provide high-quality, patient-centered obstetric care in a supportive hospital environment. We also have a pediatric hospitalist service in-house with a level two NICU as well as in-house anesthesia.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient obstetric care including labor management, triage evaluations, vaginal deliveries, emergency obstetric procedures, gynecological emergency room coverage, and postpartum care.
  • Serve as the on-site physician for labor and delivery coverage, responding to obstetric emergencies and urgent patient care needs.
  • Collaborate closely with community OB/GYN physicians, certified nurse midwives, nursing teams, anesthesiology, neonatology, and hospital staff to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
  • Perform obstetric procedures consistent with training and credentialing, including operative vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections when indicated.
  • Evaluate and manage obstetric patients presenting through the emergency department or labor and delivery triage.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, patient safety initiatives, and quality improvement programs focused on maternal and neonatal outcomes.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough documentation within the electronic medical record system.
  • Support system-wide clinical protocols and evidence-based practices aligned with Prime Healthcare standards.
  • Provide coverage across affiliated hospital campuses as part of an integrated OB Hospitalist program.

 

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Fellowship training or prior experience in OB Hospitalist/Laborist practice preferred, but not required
  • Eligible for or able to obtain a Maine medical license
  • Active DEA registration
  • Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NRP preferred
  • Strong clinical, surgical, communication, and collaborative skills
