  • Minimum 3 years Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) experience required
  • Hematology/Oncology or Palliative experience as RN or NP preferred
  • Active New York State Nurse Practitioner license
  • DEA registration with prescriptive authority

 

About the Role

New York Oncology Hematology is expanding and seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for adult patients receiving oncology and hematology care. This role addresses the psychological and neuropsychiatric impact of cancer and its treatment, including depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, delirium, cognitive changes, substance use concerns, and serious mental illness complicated by medical illness. The Nurse Practitioner functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary oncology care team, supporting patient quality of life, treatment adherence, and overall outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities: Clinical Care

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for oncology and hematology patients
  • Diagnose and treat common psychiatric conditions encountered in oncology care
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications considering cancer treatments and medical co-morbidities
  • Provide brief supportive therapy and psycho-education
  • Assess and manage psychiatric risk and mental health crises

Collaborative & Interdisciplinary Care

  • Collaborate with oncologists, hematologists, advanced practice providers, nursing, social work, and palliative care
  • Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions and treatment planning
  • Provide psychiatric consultation to oncology clinicians

Care Coordination & Systems Support

  • Coordinate referrals to behavioral health and community resources
  • Support continuity of psychiatric care across the cancer continuum
  • Document clinical care accurately in the electronic medical record

Education & Advocacy

  • Educate patients and families on psychological effects of cancer and its treatment
  • Support staff education and advocate for integrated psychiatric care

Salary Transparency

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

Base Salary Range: between $150,000 - $170,000 annually

 

About the Practice

New York Oncology Hematology (NYOH) is a large multi-specialty group in upstate New York with six cancer centers around New York State's Capital Region. We have various opportunities, including employment at large comprehensive cancer centers to small quaint rural offices. As part of our practice, we provide subspecialty oncology, hematology, stem cell, neuro-oncology, GYN oncology, mobile PET, and Women's Imaging. We are a progressive group and one of the few non-academic sites accredited to perform CAR-T therapy in the United States. Although a private practice, we are the sole hematology/oncology care providers at Albany Medical Center, the largest tertiary care/ academic center in eastern upstate NY. As a part of our association, our providers have academic appointments and are proud teachers of medical students and residents. We have a robust research department with phase 1-3 trials (NRG access). Most importantly, our organization prides itself on our providers' exceptional quality and the care they have delivered to thousands of patients yearly.
