Carilion Clinic, the largest not-for-profit integrated health system in Virginia, is seeking a Heart Failure Medical Director to serve as Chair of the Department of Medicine with combined academic and health system leadership responsibilities at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM).

Position Highlights

  • Dual leadership role combining clinical heart failure practice with academic and health system administrative responsibilities
  • Based at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital — a 760+ bed academic/tertiary referral center with Level I trauma designation
  • Join a robust Section of Cardiology with 30+ physicians across Roanoke and regional locations, supported by 40+ APPs system-wide
  • Both inpatient and outpatient practice with a Monday–Friday schedule
  • Faculty appointment with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, a fully accredited four-year allopathic medical school
  • Active research and committee participation opportunities
  • Part of a physician-led, community-based academic health system serving 1 million people across Southwest Virginia with 7 hospitals, 220+ practice locations, and 31 GME programs

Position Requirements

  • MD or DO with completion of a Heart Failure Fellowship (required)
  • US Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiology — Heart Failure
  • Minimum 5 years of post-training clinical experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with academic and/or administrative background preferred
