Mass General Brigham Medical Group is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Internal Medicine Physician to join our multidisciplinary practice in Danvers, Massachusetts as a Site Medical Director.

Reporting to the respective Mass General Brigham Medical Group Regional Medical Director, the Site Medical Director is responsible for overseeing outpatient clinical operations for their assigned primary care site(s). This role includes direct clinical oversight and clinical evaluation responsibilities for all primary care physicians (PCPs) and advanced practice providers (APPs) within the site(s). The Site Medical Director also provides oversight of ambulatory specialists who are based at, or rotate through, the site; clinical evaluation responsibilities for these specialists may vary. Site Medical Directors work in a dyad partnership with the site’s Practice Manager. The FTE allocation for this role is determined, in part, by the number of providers overseen at the assigned site(s).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with site, regional, and group leaders to share responsibility for administering protocols and standards that support quality, efficient care delivery within the assigned site(s).
  • In partnership with the Practice Manager, support optimization of care delivery by monitoring appointment access and reviewing provider templates.  
  • Participate in tracking critical performance metrics, planning, and project management activities. 
  • Administer Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluation of primary care physicians at their site when applicable.
  • Complete an evaluation for each APP at their site with a cadence set by the MGB Medical Group Director of Advanced Practice.
  • Serve as the supervising physician for Physician Assistants (PAs) at their site or ensure that the supervising physician is reviewing prescriptive practice at a cadence set by the Director of Advanced Practice and Regional Medical Director.
  • Serve as the supervising physician for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) at their site or ensure that the supervising physician or Qualified Healthcare Professional (QHP) is reviewing prescriptive practice at a cadence set by Director of Advanced Practice and Regional Medical Director.
  • Meet regularly with new physicians and APPs to review clinical questions and provide support (approximate cadence of biweekly to monthly for first year, and quarterly during 2nd year).
  • In collaboration with the Regional Director of Operations, Practice Manager(s), and supervising staff, contribute to the communication with, and engagement of, onsite clinical staff including but not limited to clinicians, RNs, LPNs, MAs.
  • Remain engaged in regular communication with site, regional, and group leadership.
  • Remain situationally aware of site-level budget discussions and planning.
  • Ensure that any disciplinary or impairment issues on the part of physicians or APPs are handled promptly and appropriately.
  • Collaborate with site leadership, HR, and/or MGB Medical Group leadership in forming recommendations regarding remedial actions related to substandard performance in clinical care, teaching, and/or professionalism of all clinical members of the site.
  • Partner with talent acquisitions on the recruitment and interview process for new physician, APP, and clinical hires.
  • Set agenda and lead regular provider meetings (approximate cadence of monthly to bimonthly).
  • Connect with Population Health team regularly to review metrics.
  • Regularly attend North Shore Medical Directors meeting and cascade meeting information with site providers.
  • Regularly attend Town Halls and other group level meetings and forums, virtually or in-person.
  • Provide backup call coverage for After Hours Call Program equitably with all other participating Primary Care Site Medical Directors across MGB Medical Group.
  • Fully comply with all billing, departmental, institutional, and external regulatory policies.
  • Maintain the highest levels of quality clinical care and patient satisfaction.
  • Advocate for and communicate opportunities for professional development of physicians and APPs.
  • Create and maintain harmonious and effective work units - ones that foster communication, teamwork, cooperation, flexibility, respect, good morale, safety, and diversity. Demonstrate professional behavior and engage in an effective, collaborative, and congenial manner with other departmental and institutional members as part of a multidisciplinary team of caregivers.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Medical Licensure in Massachusetts
  • Current board certification by ABIM or ABFM
  • Exceptional clinical judgment and performance
  • Experience working in community-based settings preferred

Key Features of our Primary Care Model:

  • After-Hours Call Program: Physicians are not responsible for after-hours call coverage.
  • Virtual Clinic Support (VCS): A centralized team of advanced practice providers work remotely to manage clinical tasks that traditionally fall to primary care physicians, including managing clinical inboxes, test results, patient messages, medication refills and routine patient follow-up.
