Position Summary

NextCare Urgent Care is seeking an experienced Full-Time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in Waco, Texas.

A minimum of one year of post-graduate experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.

Our full-time clinicians typically work three 12-hour shifts per week, allowing providers to be off more days than they work. Monthly schedules are released in advance, and there are no after-hours patient care or charting responsibilities.

You'll work with an experienced clinical team and have access to supportive medical leadership for real-time guidance when needed. The role offers a broad scope of practice, a diverse patient population, and the opportunity to maintain strong clinical and procedural skills.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages in an urgent care setting
  • Manage acute illnesses, injuries, and occupational health visits
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including labs and imaging
  • Perform urgent care procedures, including suturing, wound care, splinting, and other applicable procedures
  • Perform initial x-ray interpretation prior to radiology over-read
  • Develop and clearly communicate treatment plans and discharge instructions
  • Document patient care accurately and efficiently in the EHR
  • Code and bill services appropriately
  • Maintain patient flow and productivity consistent with urgent care benchmarks
  • Practice independently while utilizing medical leadership and clinical resources when appropriate
  • Provide high-quality care in alignment with NextCare clinical standards and values

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of post-graduate NP or PA experience required
  • Active, unrestricted Texas Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license, or ability to obtain
  • NP: FNP certification through ANCC or AANP required
  • PA: NCCPA certification required
  • Active DEA registration or ability to obtain
  • Ability and confidence to treat patients of all ages
  • Active BLS certification
  • EHR proficiency
  • Strong clinical decision-making and time-management skills
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays
  • DOT certification or willingness to obtain; fees covered per company policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior urgent care, emergency medicine, or fast-track experience
  • Experience working independently in a high-volume clinical setting
  • Strong procedural skills, including suturing, splinting, and wound care
  • Experience with initial x-ray interpretation
  • Occupational medicine experience
  • Ability to efficiently manage a broad range of acute conditions and injuries
