General Summary:

The Pediatric APRN or Physician Assistant, under the supervision of the Physician, who acts as the collaborative practitioner, is responsible for:

  • Performs newborn admissions, consultations, follow-up care, and discharge planning.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests for newborn patients, including routine laboratory studies and imaging.
  • Provides education and counseling to newborn family members regarding the patient's condition, treatment plan, and discharge instructions.
  • Monitors the newborn's clinical progress, evaluates response to treatment, and coordinates referrals to physicians or specialists as clinically indicated.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure consistent, high-quality newborn care and support.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Master's degree from an accredited Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program required. Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Physician Assistant (PA-C) candidates with strong, relevant newborn clinical experience as an RN or PA will also be considered.
  • Previous experience as a Pediatric Hospitalist APRN or PA-C with a primary focus on newborn care is preferred.

Licensure, Certification, and Registration:

  • Current, valid Florida APRN or PA-C license
  • Certification by Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or NCCPA
  • BLS, PALS, NRP certification
