Physician - Chief Medical Officer

The DHIP Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) for Access and Patient Experience will provide executive clinical leadership for enterprise access, the ambulatory patient journey, patient experience, and patient-centered culture across Duke Health Integrated Practice. The role will focus on improving access to care, simplifying entry into the health system, and advancing a coordinated, compassionate, timely, safe, respectful, and easy-to-navigate patient experience across ambulatory and outpatient practices. This is a part-time Physician or Advanced Practice Provider role with approximately 0.3-0.5 of total professional effort protected for leadership, while maintaining an appropriate level of clinical practice. The final clinical and administrative schedule will be developed with the selected Department leadership. Both physicians and Advanced Practice Providers are welcome to apply.

         Improve referrals scheduling, capacity, and access

         Advanced patient-centered equitable care

         Partner across clinical, operational, and support teams

         Advance digital access, AI, and automation

         Support enterprise access and experience initiatives

         Communicate priorities and outcomes to senior leadership

Preferred Work Experience:

         Clinical leadership in ambulatory access or practice improvement

         Experience with referrals, scheduling, and access transformation

         Experience in an academic or complex health system

         Experience with patient experience data and feedback

         Experience leading cross-functional change

         Experience advancing patient-centered culture and engagement

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

         Strong clinical leadership and communication skills

         Systems thinking and collaboration

         Ability to develop standards, metrics, and workflows

         Commitment to patient-centeredness, equity, and provider sustainability

         Ability to use data to drive improvements

         Strong clinician engagement and change management skills

Required Education and Licensure for Physician candidates:

         MD, DO, MBBS, or equivalent degree from an accredited medical school

         Active or eligible medical licensure in North Carolina

Required Education and Licensure for Advanced Practice Provider candidates:

         Terminal degree from an accredited nursing or physician assistant school

         Active or eligible certification in North Carolina

Preferred qualifications for Physician candidates:

         MD, DO, MBBS, or equivalent degree with active or eligible medical licensure

         Advanced training or experience in healthcare administration, clinical leadership, quality improvement, improvement science, Lean, analytics, Six Sigma, informatics, or digital health.

Preferred qualifications for Advanced Practice Provider candidates:

         Terminal degree from an accredited nursing or physician assistant school with active or eligible certification in North Carolina

         Advanced clinical or administrative leadership experience relevant to access, patient experience, or ambulatory practice improvement
