The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) – OB Hospitalist will provide hospital-based obstetric care in a collaborative environment alongside OB/GYN physicians, MFM specialists, and other members of the women's health team.
This position is focused on inpatient obstetric care and provides an opportunity for an experienced CNM to practice within a structured hospital-based model while supporting safe, high-quality care for patients throughout labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive inpatient obstetric care within the CNM scope of practice
- Evaluate and manage patients presenting to labor and delivery and obstetric triage
- Provide antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care for appropriate patients
- Manage normal labor and delivery and recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
- Perform routine obstetric procedures consistent with training, credentialing, and privileges
- Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians and MFM specialists for patients requiring physician or subspecialty involvement
- Assist with obstetric emergencies and coordinate escalation of care when clinically indicated
- Provide patient education, counseling, and support throughout the hospitalization
- Participate in handoffs and coordinate care with nursing, anesthesia, neonatology, and other hospital-based teams
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation
- Adhere to clinical protocols, quality standards, infection prevention guidelines, and patient safety initiatives
- Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and clinical best practice initiatives
- Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational policies
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May provide clinical guidance and support to nursing and clinical staff within the scope of practice
- Participate in mentoring, training, onboarding, and education of clinical staff as appropriate

Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Midwifery program
- Current Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
- Active Arizona RN and CNM/APRN licensure or eligibility to obtain
- Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start date
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications or ability to obtain prior to employment
- Appropriate hospital privileges or eligibility to obtain privileges
- Strong commitment to collaborative, team-based care
Preferred Experience
- Prior hospital-based CNM or OB Hospitalist experience
- Experience managing labor and delivery in a hospital setting
- Experience with obstetric triage and acute obstetric evaluation
- Experience working collaboratively with OB/GYN and MFM physicians
- Familiarity with hospital-based quality and patient safety initiatives
- Interest in clinical education, mentorship, or quality improvement
Work Environment
- Hospital-based position with primary responsibilities in labor and delivery, obstetric triage, and postpartum care
- Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and other healthcare-related hazards
- Fast-paced clinical environment requiring adaptability, multitasking, and sound clinical judgment
- Frequent interaction with patients, families, physicians, nurses, hospital staff, and interdisciplinary care teams
- May require extended shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays based on hospital coverage needs
