Director, Pediatric Palliative Care

Cleveland Clinic, one of the worlds most distinguished academic medical centers, announces a search for a Pediatric Palliative Care physician to lead our growing team. The director of palliative care will have the resources and support to bring his or her vision to fruition. This position provides the opportunity to work in a highly engaging and collaborative environment with the support and resources of the Childrens Institute to provide the best care for our pediatric and young adult patients, while engaging in education and driving research and innovation.

The selected candidate will lead a vibrant and growing program that currently includes 3 Pediatric Palliative Care physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, a nurse coordinator, and a dedicated social worker, as well as collaboration with our adult Palliative care team. Pediatric Palliative Care resides within the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and provides both outpatient care and in-patient consultation.  The director will be responsible for a team that sees patients at the Main Campus, Cleveland Clinic Childrens Hospital for Rehabilitation, Fairview Hospital NICU, and Hillcrest Hospital NICU. Plans are underway to expand this care to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General NICU and potentially to other locations across northeast Ohio.

The candidate will lead a team that collaborates closely with multiple subspecialists including but not limited to prenatal care and neonatology, hematology-oncology, cardiology, critical care medicine, and children with medical complexity. Consultation occurs at Main Campus in the inpatient and outpatient settings, and at Cleveland Clinic regional hospitals housing neonatal and pediatric patients.  There is also collaboration with outside home hospice agencies who provide ongoing care to our patients along the trajectory of their chronic illnesses.

A pediatric palliative medicine fellowship is funded and scheduled to launch in July 2027. Education and training of adult palliative medicine fellows, other pediatric subspecialty fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students are a priority.  A commitment to interdisciplinary teamwork and collaboration, high quality pediatric palliative care, and outstanding communication skills are essential.

The successful candidate will be board-certified in Pediatrics and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with academic accomplishments is expected at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Research opportunities are available in the Childrens Institute with multiple pilot funding programs across Cleveland Clinic, and research collaboration with the adult Palliative Medicine team among others. Quality and Continuous Improvement efforts are also supported by Cleveland Clinic Childrens dedicated experts. Cleveland Clinic physicians enjoy a collegial work environment within the framework of a large group practice, with a competitive salary enhanced by a very attractive benefits package.

Cleveland Clinic Childrens is consistently ranked as one of the best childrens hospitals in the nation and is currently ranked in 10 out of 10 pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report.
