Cleveland Clinic is seeking a distinguished physician leader to serve as the Head of the Neurocritical Intensive Care Unit (NICU) within its renowned Cerebrovascular Center. This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary program dedicated to delivering cutting-edge care for critically ill neurologic patients. The successful candidate will provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership, advancing excellence in the management of cerebrovascular and other acute neurologic conditions.

Position Highlights

  • Lead a high-acuity Neurocritical Intensive Care Unit within a nationally recognized Cerebrovascular center within the Neurological Institute.
  • Drive the strategic growth and clinical excellence of our premier neurocritical care program
  • Build and expand a multidisciplinary Neurocritical care program across the continuum of care within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.
  • Collaborate with nationally recognized leaders in vascular neurology, cerebrovascular neurosurgery, endovascular services, critical care, emergency medicine, radiology, rehabilitation, nursing, and research
  • Advance innovation in quality, safety, patient outcomes, education, and research while strengthening a national and internationally recognized destination program

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive leadership for the Neurocritical Care Unit, encompassing clinical, operational, academic, and programmatic oversight
  • Define and execute a forward-looking strategic vision for neurocritical care and NICU growth
  • Lead the development of advanced multidisciplinary neurocritical care services, including:
    • Multimodal advanced neuromonitoring programs
    • Protocol-driven, standardized management care pathways
    • Integrated systems of care in collaboration with trauma, neurosurgery, neurology, emergency medicine, critical care, and rehabilitation services for patients with acute neurologic emergencies
    • Initiatives in quality improvement, patient safety, operational efficiency, and high-reliability care which aligns program goals with institutional priorities in value-based care and system-wide excellence
  • Expand a robust research portfolio in neurocritical care including clinical, translational, and outcomes research
  • Represent the program internally and externally, strengthening institutional visibility and leadership in neurocritical care through collaboration, innovation, and program development
  • Foster the programs national and international academic profile through scholarship, presentations, and leadership in professional societies

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution
  • Board certification in an appropriate primary specialty
  • Fellowship training and board certification in Neurocritical Care
  • Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in Ohio
  • Proven leadership and demonstrated expertise in neurocritical care and cerebrovascular disease management in a complex academic or tertiary/quaternary care setting
  • Strong track record in collaboration, program development, and quality improvement
