Medical Director, Cardiac Rehabilitation
The Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation provides physician leadership, clinical oversight, and strategic guidance for the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Secondary Prevention programs across the OhioHealth system. This role ensures the delivery of safe, evidence?based, patient?centered, and high?quality care while supporting program growth, regulatory compliance, and continuous performance improvement. The Medical Director partners closely with cardiopulmonary rehabilitation leadership, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to advance clinical excellence and optimize patient outcomes.
Description:
- Provide physician leadership to ensure cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention services are safe, comprehensive, cost?effective, and medically appropriate for individual patients.
- Ensure clinical care aligns with current evidence?based guidelines for cardiovascular disease management, secondary prevention, and exercise?based therapy.
- Serve as a clinical resource and advocate for best practices in cardiac rehabilitation across the system.
Program Development & Operations
- Partner with Cardiac Rehabilitation leadership to support program development, operational effectiveness, and ongoing quality improvement.
- Oversee clinical policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and certification requirements.
- Support referral growth and physician engagement across the Heart & Vascular network by promoting program awareness and clinical value.
Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement
- Participate in the evaluation of program effectiveness, efficiency, and outcomes, and support targeted improvement initiatives as needed.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, patient safety, and accountability within the cardiac rehabilitation program.
- Collaborate with administrative and clinical leaders on performance metrics, reporting, and improvement strategies.
Patient Referral & Clinical Evaluation
- Ensure appropriate systems and policies are in place for patient referral, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and physician oversight in accordance with reimbursement and regulatory requirements.
- Support processes for initial patient evaluation, individualized goal development, and ongoing program monitoring.
Requirements:
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Board certified or board eligible in Cardiovascular Disease (Cardiology).
- Active, unrestricted Ohio medical license (or ability to obtain).
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in cardiovascular disease management and secondary prevention.
- Experience or training in exercise?based care for patients with heart disease.
- Ability to lead and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
