Position Summary

The Manager, Advanced Practice Providers provides direct leadership and oversight for ambulatory oncology APPs within Smilow Cancer Center. Reporting in partnership with operational and clinical leadership, this individual is responsible for workforce management, recruitment, performance development, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and clinical excellence.

The APP Manager serves as a strategic leader, mentor, and advocate while maintaining clinical practice responsibilities as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

• Provide direct leadership and supervision for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants across ambulatory oncology services
• Oversee staffing models, scheduling, productivity, and coverage planning
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning efforts
• Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development planning
• Partner with physician, nursing, operational, and executive leaders to optimize care delivery
• Ensure compliance with credentialing, regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards
• Manage APP-related budgets, compensation alignment, and workforce planning initiatives
• Represent APP services in leadership, quality, and operational meetings

Quality & Program Development

• Lead quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, safety, and operational performance
• Develop and implement APP practice standards, workflows, and evidence-based care models
• Monitor key performance metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
• Support innovation and strategic growth initiatives throughout the oncology service line

Education & Professional Development

• Foster a culture of learning, engagement, and clinical excellence
• Lead APP orientation and onboarding programs
• Mentor APPs in clinical practice, leadership development, scholarship, and career advancement
• Support continuing education, certification achievement, and maintenance of professional competencies
• Serve as preceptor and educational resource for APP students and new graduates

Clinical Practice

• Maintain active clinical practice within oncology services
• Provide direct patient care as needed to support operational and clinical needs
• Participate in patient evaluation, treatment planning, care coordination, and follow-up management
• Ensure high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered oncology care

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
• Master's degree required; doctoral degree preferred

Licensure & Certification

For Nurse Practitioners:

• Connecticut APRN License
• National Board Certification

For Physician Assistants:

• Connecticut PA License
• NCCPA Certification

Additional Requirements:

• DEA Registration
• Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration
• Eligibility for credentialing and medical staff appointment within Yale New Haven Health

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of Advanced Practice Provider experience preferred
• Oncology experience required
• Prior leadership, supervisory, educational, or management experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated success in team leadership, program development, and performance management
